Level 3 Diploma for Strength and Conditioning Trainers
L3DipSCT
The Level 3 Diploma (L3DipSCT) is customised for teachers, PTs, Musculo-Skeletal (MSK) therapists, physiotherapists and sports coaches. It is also a great choice for school leavers as an alternative or a precursor to a university course in sports science or an S&C degree. The course provides learners with the confidence and competence to master and deliver the most effective exercises and principles of S&C.
“Strength and conditioning is the route to improving wellbeing and physical performance by applying tried and tested training strategies that enhance muscle function and boost metabolic health. Completing this level 3 diploma will empower the trainer to support others to achieve rewarding gains in physical capacity.”
Why Athlete Academy?
The L3DipSCT is the first UK Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA) approved first stage S&C qualification. Our Head Coach, Ed Archer, was part of the UKSCA team that developed and designed the qualification, giving him unparalleled insight into how to get the best from the course.
Ed’s track record in S&C coaching and training is also first class. He has trained Army and Royal Navy PTs, the Head of S&C for Manchester City FC Women, the Birmingham Royal Ballet physio team and Fiona Pocock, PT and former England Women Rugby international among others.
Being mentored by Ed throughout the programme means that candidates will have the opportunity to experience and attend coaching sessions he gives, assist in group coaching and have 1:1 access to his knowledge and expertise throughout the course.
The Athlete Academy programme combined with Ed’s experience means we offer a unique package, unrivalled by other training providers. We can deliver training for high performance elite athletes, experienced or newly qualified PTs and our experience supporting PE departments in schools such as Crypt School, makes us an ideal choice for those interested in making a positive contribution in a youth setting.
Why this course?
The first practical module is independent of facility and equipment. Instead it focuses on developing the ability to observe, analyse and improve a range of movement patterns without the use of specialist equipment or spaces. This means learners will be able to impact the athleticism of those they coach regardless of the environment they operate in. This is distinct from existing fitness industry qualifications that predominantly focus on the use of gym facilities.
In order to get the most from the course, personal experimentation is encouraged to find the training tools that best develop abilities and confidence which in turn will enable more empathic relations with their own clients once they qualify.
The course develops coaching skills from the very first workshop. Beginning with their peers and progressing to external participants, the experience of working with ‘real-world’ participants helps to give a much more authentic knowledge of what life after the course will be like.
Course Overview
The aim of this course is to develop the knowledge and skills so you can engage, educate and support clients in multiple training environments, including but not limited to weight training facilities, sports halls, health and fitness gym facilities and outdoor spaces.
You will begin to make a real difference to real participants early in your course as we support you to begin your coaching journey with mastery of the foundation movement skills (FMs), progressing to coaching strength-based training (SBT), developing effective energy systems training (EST) and testing protocols.
Under our mentorship, you will apply your practical skills to also explore consultation skills, health and movement screening tools, develop your understanding of coaching science to improve technique and support behaviour change. Through effective needs analysis and goal setting, you will learn to design, implement and review impactful training programmes for your participants.
As a part of your enrolment on our course, you will have Associate Membership with the UKSCA, allowing you to join a larger network of strength and conditioning professionals and access learning resources ensuring you stay at the forefront of the field.
